Mochi Fufuu - by Meow On

I have been following Meow On on social media I have watched this Mochi Fufuu toy being developed. It is one very nice build with removable space helmets, clothing and accessories including astronaut back backs. as a very mice touch the character has NES and Famicon [the original Japanese only Nintendo console] controllers attached to their space suits.

Hopefully there will be much more of these from Meow On, and available from a U.S. Retailer soon.

DTAs - VOTING OPEN and Gavriel Discordia's Wish List

Clutter Magazine is putting on the 7th Annual Designer Toy Awards at the New 5 Point Festival.

In the Running this year are the following Artists: Uamou, Horrible Adorables, Jaun Muniz, The Bots, MJ Hsu, Cat Atomic, Quiccs, Map-Map, Charles Rodriguez, Colus, God Machine, Trap Toys, James Groman, Jason Freeny, Otto Bjornik, Tracy Tubera, Lana Crooks, Kyle Kirwan, 2PetalRose, Candie Bolton, RX Seven, Dolly Oblong, and all the stalwarts of the scene that populate theses lists perpetually.

So whats the Drama with the DTAs this year? Probably the same as the last 6 years. Same old names year after year would be one of them. And as usual tons of amazing things never made the list. 

I can only speak for my experience as a toy blogger coming off a year+ Guest Blogging stint on Tenacious Ninja and as Owner of Discordia Culture Shop, which means I am privy to A LOT of Toy Artists. So Ill just list what I see missing.

Rato Kim - BreadCat - This was the only one on my wish list who made it in, receiving both Best Resin and Toy of the Year. And well deserved the Nomination was. Note: the BreadCat is only one of a line of toys based on the BOXCAT Platform. I can't get enough of this. Rato Kim rocks.

What would I change about the DTAs if it was up to me? More Public influence. 

Having what appears to be a Committee list of mostly Toy Artists, and Blog/Store/Company owners who select the Finalists, [who are often themselves] and then vote on MOST of the categories without the public, seems odd to me. I would definitely let the Public Nominate, elect Finalist and vote on most of the Categories. But that's just me.

Drama and Opinions aside, it is what it is and its time to go vote for what you can that made the Finalist lists.

What Paul Budnitz of KidRobot has been up to

Paul Budnitz started KidRobot in 2002 and in effect developed the first US Designer Toy Chain Store. Unfortunately the KidRobot stores went from selling everyone else's goods to becoming vanity stores that merely showcased KidRobot goods only in order to build their 'Brand' for the inevitable Exit Strategy. KidRobot fell apart and shuttered all its stores. Fortunately Frank Kozik stepped in and rescued KidRobot and has revitalized the operation so there still stands a chance of some artists getting a few high profile toy releases.

Will the Chain Stores return? Will they go back to stocking EVERYONES Designer Toys? We can only hope.

So back to Budnitz. He took all the money and ran off to Vermont to build terribly expensive Limited Edition bicycles. Designer Bicycles? Sure, why not?

So as far as sold out, New England state dwelling, visionaries go Budnitz has actually impressed. The bikes are made of the finest materials with innovations built in at every point. The Belt Drive instead of a chain is a nice touch.

And you would never guess what that rather large rear hub in the photo above is. That is a rather small internally housed electric motor system controlled by bluetooth. No sh*t!

If you have $4Gs to throw down on a super advanced electric bike you will have to go to Budnitz Bicycles because, well frankly, you have no choice. No one else has this.

Mazzone persuasively argues that the room that copyright makes for public expression and innovation -- through fair use and other defenses -- offer exactly the kind of safety valve that copyright's monopoly on expression demands.

However, as Mazzone points out, there is virtually no penalty for unjustly claiming that these public freedoms don't exist. The entertainment industry can slather its products in dire warnings that ignore fair use and make misleading threats for users who lend, re-use or sample the media they buy. They can demand licenses for minimal uses, for works in the public domain, and for fair uses. They can assert absurd trademark claims. They can threaten baseless lawsuits by the bushel-load -- and all without any risk to them.

Purchased at the 2005 Demon Days release party event at Criminal Records in Atlanta

Signed by Jamie Hewlett, Damon Albarn, and Danger Mouse.

This Black edition was the first in the collaboration between the Gorillaz and Kid Robot.

A rare find for a complete set, even more rare as a signed set from one of the signing events.

EACH FIGURE STILL IN ORIGINAL PLASTIC WITH ORIGINAL DECALS ON SHEET.
