The up and coming global star of the Designer Toy World, Rato Kim is
the latest victim of some big company stealing their Creation and
selling it without License or Permission.
We have seen this
happen to Evan Dorkin and his Milk and Cheese characters who were copied
and dropped into vending machines across America recently. Along with
countless others. There are blogs devoted entirely to this practice, so
feel free to dig deeper into this practice.

The company will get no hype from us, so don't expect a link to them here. But this is obviously a character design from the BOXCAT line of hand made toys, specifically, BreadCat. Once again, instead of just hiring the artist and making their goods official, they choose to flat out jack this kids creativity and give them no credit.
This is how the corporate establishment chooses to conduct itself. On one hand they steal creativity right off the streets, on the other hand they try to threaten Creatives for their Transformative Works based on existing properties. Often blended together homages known as Mash Up art.
In Rato Kim's case she has just received Nominations from the Designer Toy Awards for several categories including Toy Artist Of the Year. Since she is known across the world already they wont be getting away with anything, this will only serve to bring Rato Kim more hype.
Alas this is only one of her ever expanding line of characters that make up the BOXCAT line of toys. So its not like it's going to stop her.
The Artist Statement paraphrased roughly;
"This is not official Breadcat, it's a fake. I am very very angry. Do not buy it."
